The Swedish torch log — a single log that burns from the inside out and gives you a flat cooking top for your kettle, skillet, or s'mores. Cut fresh to order right here in Bay City, Texas.
No warehouse, no stale stock — your log is cut after you order it. And we're the only place making them in Matagorda County.
Swedish soldiers figured this out in the 1600s: one log, split partway like a pie, lit in the middle. The flame jets up the center like a stove burner while the outside holds together.
Pick your pack below and send the order form. We cut your logs fresh — seasoned local hardwood and pine, with a firestarter and rope handle included.

One match in the center starts it. In minutes you've got a steady flame and a flat top that holds a coffee pot, cast iron skillet, or marshmallow sticks.
A bundle of firewood is a chore with a fire attached. A torch log is the evening, handled.
The flame lives inside the log, shielded by the wood itself. A beach breeze that blows a pile fire sideways — sparks and all — barely bothers a torch.
One log in, one small pile of ash out. No scattered charcoal, no big black scar burned into the sand, and nothing heavy to haul.
Nobody around here sells these. First torch on the beach or at hunting camp turns heads, starts conversations, and makes a gift people actually remember.
A Swedish torch is not a bundle of firewood. It is one upright log with deep pie cuts that stop before the base, so the log stays in one piece while air and flame travel through the center.
At least 8 inches across and 16 inches tall. Smaller pieces tend to burn through quickly, hold less cooking heat, and are easier to tip over.
We aim for 9–12 inches across and 16–18 inches tall, with flat ends and cuts stopping about 4 inches above the base. Natural logs vary a little.
Plan on about 2–3 hours from a standard log. A larger, dense hardwood log may approach 4 hours; pine, wind, and damp wood can shorten the burn.
Place the log on a level, nonflammable surface — a fire ring, bare dirt or sand, gravel, stone, or a metal fire pan. Make sure it does not wobble.
Move dry grass, leaves, and anything flammable away from the log. Keep clear space overhead and around all sides.
Loosen the included firestarter and place it down in the center cuts. Leave room for air — do not pack the cuts tight.
Light the firestarter in the center. Give it roughly 10–20 minutes for the flame to catch the inside walls and settle into a steady burn.
Once the flame is steady, set a stable skillet, kettle, or coffee pot on the flat top. Use lighter loads late in the burn because the log weakens as it burns.
Let it burn down in place if allowed, or douse it thoroughly with water or sand. Stir the ash and repeat until everything is cold to the touch.
Every log comes ready to light — firestarter tucked in the cuts and a rope carry handle. Locally made beats shipped: no freight, no kiln fees, no crushed boxes.
3 torch logs — $13 each
A whole weekend of fires for the camper or beach house.
6 torch logs — $11.50 each
For gatherings, hunting camp, and gifts that don't need wrapping paper.
Do the evening math: one log is the whole night's fire — less than a store bundle of firewood, with no kindling to hunt, no lighter fluid, and no bark-and-dirt mess in the truck bed.
If your log won't light on the first try with the included firestarter, tell us — your next log is free. That's the deal.

A torch log is still an open fire. Read this before lighting one — especially on the beach, where wind can change the burn fast.
Plan on about 2–3 hours from a standard 9–12 inch log. Larger, dense hardwood can burn longer — sometimes approaching 4 hours — while pine, wind, or damp wood can shorten it.
Then the next one is free — that's our First-Light Guarantee. Use the included firestarter in the center cuts, give it a few minutes to catch, and if a seasoned log still won't go, tell us and we'll replace it.
Yes — that's the original point. The flat top works like a burner ring: coffee pot, kettle, cast iron skillet, or a Dutch oven all sit right on it.
Backyards, fire pits, campsites, and beaches where fires are allowed. Read the safety notice first: check burn bans and local rules, use a nonflammable base, keep water or sand nearby, and never leave a fire unattended.
Seasoned local logs — hardwoods like oak and pecan for long, cook-friendly burns, and pine for a fast, bright flame. Tell us in the order notes if you have a preference.
Moving raw firewood long distances spreads tree-killing pests, and it's restricted in many places. We sell local and point out-of-area buyers to kiln-dried, pest-certified brands instead.
